Is Your Next Road Trip Actually Ready?
Most travellers skip the fundamentals. We built this interactive diagnostic so you can score your preparedness before you ever turn the key. Work through each checkpoint below — then let us handle whatever gaps remain.
Road Trip Readiness Checklist
Tap each item to mark it complete. Your readiness score updates live. Items you can't tick? That's exactly where we step in.
Confirm your car has passed its most recent NCT and that no service intervals are overdue.
Check tread depth on all four tyres plus the spare. Inflate to manufacturer spec for loaded travel.
Verify your policy covers extended travel, additional drivers, and roadside assistance in all regions.
Map your primary route plus one alternate. Identify fuel stations at intervals no greater than 150 km.
Book at least your first and last night. Leave middle nights flexible if you prefer spontaneity.
Hi-vis vest, warning triangle, first-aid kit, torch, jump leads, and a charged power bank.
Download offline maps for your entire route. Test GPS lock before departure day.
Check Met Éireann and TII traffic updates for the dates and regions of your trip.
Heavy items low and central. Nothing loose on the parcel shelf. Roof box secured if used.
Schedule a break every two hours. Share driving if possible. No driving between 02:00–06:00.
Snacks, water, entertainment for children, motion sickness remedies, and comfortable footwear.
Estimate fuel, tolls, food, and contingency. Carry some cash for rural areas with limited card acceptance.

Journey Board: How an Engagement Unfolds
Not a numbered pipeline. A living board we share with you so every decision stays visible.
Discovery
We learn your dates, group size, vehicle details, and what kind of experience you're after — leisurely exploration, efficient transit, or something in between.
Blueprint
You receive a route blueprint: mapped stops, timing estimates, fuel and toll costs, accommodation options, and a risk assessment for weather-sensitive legs.
Live Support
During your trip, our relay line is active. Road closures, breakdowns, last-minute detours — we reroute you in real time.
"The live reroute saved us two hours when the N71 was blocked near Kenmare." — F. Gallagher, Dublin

A Note from the Planning Desk
We started this service after a family trip through West Cork went sideways — flooded road, no mobile signal, and a booking that didn't exist when we arrived. Everything that could go wrong did.
That experience became the seed for Vehicle Road Travel. We now prepare trips the way we wish someone had prepared ours: methodically, with contingencies, and with someone reachable when things shift.
Based in Rueckermouth, we serve travellers across Ireland and those visiting from abroad who want to drive the country properly.
Common Diagnostic Questions
Why Diagnostic-First Planning Works
Traditional travel agencies sell you a package. We start by auditing what you already have — your vehicle, your route ideas, your timing — and only intervene where gaps exist. This means you pay for value, not filler.
The checklist above isn't marketing theatre. It's the same framework our planners use internally. If you score 10 or above, you might not need us at all. And we're fine with that — because the travellers who do need us get a service built on honesty, not upselling.
